A wooden sword tutorial
I had desperately wanted to make a sword, and a tutorial to go along with it. We are just too busy this week to do it. I did find a nice tutorial for a wooden sword over at Neither rhyme nor reason. It is pretty simple, and only requires a jig saw. He also shows an easy way to make a shield in the same post. I suppose you could do this on a band saw, or scroll saw too if that was what you had available to you. You can even make your own sandpaper for the beginning phase of sanding your sword.

homemade sandpaper tutorial
We made sandpaper today to sand the sword that I will cut from wood this week. It is good gritty sandpaper for all the woodwork you & your child will do. This is how we did it.
Homemade sandpaper
supplies
- craft paper or other sturdy paper cut into rectangles
- glue
- small cup for glue
- wide paint brush
- sand, beach sand or playground sand
- a big piece of paper to catch extra sand
- sand sifter, or other sifting thing (optional)
first paint your craft paper squares with glue.
Get a nice thick coat of glue on there.
Sift sand onto the glue until it is completely covered
pat the sand down, and make sure all of the glue is covered by sand
shake off all of the loose sand
Set it in a safe place to dry. You now have sandpaper for your woodworking projects.
